After a close call with a precancerous condition almost 2 decades ago, I developed a research and practical interest in a compound called sulforaphane.
This secondary plant compound is formed when we consume brassica veggies but broccoli sprouts/microgreens can contain up to 100 times the concentration by weight of adult veggies.
Since then I've been growing my own microgreens and recommending them to my clients to benefit a wide range of hormonal and inflammatory conditions, as well as to simply promote good health.
If you'd love to learn about the biochemistry of how secondary plant compounds found in microgreens (sulforaphane, anthocyanins, etc) may benefit your health, and leave with the practical skills and gear to grow hundreds of dollars worth of your own amazing nutrient-dense microgreens: Join me for my next LIVE or ZOOM/Online microgreen workshop!
Im so passionate about the health benefits and the delicious, colorful addition they make to meals, and I love to share what I've learned over the last 15 years of growing microgreens.
Mircogreens are basically baby plants. They contain up to 100X the potent plant compounds known to support longevity, prevent disease and regulate our genes to make us healthier, than their adult counterparts.
For example, broccoli micros contain the same amount of anti-cancer nutrient sulforaphane in 30g as 300g of adult broccoli
Growing micro greens is EASY. It doesn’t matter if you live on a farm or an apartment, as long as you have enough light to sustain a houseplant, you can grow your own micro greens at home. After understanding the process and needs of your micros youll be eating farm to table in seconds. Kids also LOVE micro greens, with most crops ready
Growing micro greens is EASY. It doesn’t matter if you live on a farm or an apartment, as long as you have enough light to sustain a houseplant, you can grow your own micro greens at home. After understanding the process and needs of your micros youll be eating farm to table in seconds. Kids also LOVE micro greens, with most crops ready in under 10 days, they are perfectly suited for those with short attention spans and discerning appetites.
When you grow your own micros, you eat fresher than fresh. Once harvested vegetables immediately begin to lose antioxidants. By 3 days post harvest msot vegetables contain very little antioxidants like vitamin C; meaning your grocery store produce could be mostly fibre and water.
Because of their short growth cycle, microsalmsot never need any form of pest control, meaning they are always organic
“This was such a worthwhile workshop anyone can do! I had no idea how much essential nutrition is in a micro green. Vanessa has so much knowledge to share and the support afterwards is exceptional. For me now, I’m eating a healthy nutritious lunch or snack every day and I know it’s something I’ll continue to do. Seriously it was life changing! ”
“Your workshop on growing micro greens was amazing - and such a great way to get started with growing your family a quick, abundant and varied source of nutritious food.
As part of the course you go home with your first crop which you have planted under Vanessa’s expert supervision, as well as extra soil, spray bottle and seeds along with ongoing support and information to enable you to continue your growing experience.
All this and a super yummy goodness filled lunch washed down with a world beating smoothie and the opportunity to meet new friends on life’s journey.
A gratifying course worth every cent and highly recommended to all. ”
“Vanessa has an incredible knack for taking scientific knowledge and making it practical, that’s exactly what this course is - applied science!
Once you understand the power of these potent plants and how easy it is to grow them at home there will be no stopping you!
So if you think this is just a fancy gardening course you’re in for a big surprise…’”
“I thoroughly enjoyed your workshop and would recommend it to anyone.
At first I had to get my head around the cost, because it seemed like a lot of money to invest. But I can see why...and it is well worth every dollar. I was surprised how much info you provided and also the equipment and extras you provided that I had not been expecting.
The delicious lunch and nutritious drink was the icing on the cake (so to speak).
I’m thrilled with how my new trays of seeds have grown so quickly and produced nutrition within a week.
Not only have my meals become healthier but the impact on my family will be exciting to follow too.
I also appreciate the helpful info and encouragement on the Facebook group, and your willingness to answer any concerns we may have.
My granddaughter (3.5yrs old) is coming over for the weekend so I’m going to teach her all about it and we’ll start a mini planting for her to watch grow too.”
“What a wonderful workshop. Dr. Vanessa Ingraham facilitated the workshop beautifully. She possesses a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of health and well being and was able to distill this information so that the average lay-person like me could understand. When it comes to Microgreens, Sulforaphane is one of the big players in this wellness game. All questions were answered effectively and I came away from the initial intro feeling more confident as to why I was growing Microgreens in the first place.
We then moved into the practical part of the workshop. All the components required to grow your first 2 trays of Microgreens were supplied. Vanessa guided us step by step in completing this task, pointing out the tricks that she has learnt over the years of growing. You go home with two seeded trays ready for germination plus organic seedling mix, seeds etc, to create your own second crop. In case you any key information along the way, Vanessa E mails you a cheat sheet with all the necessary knowledge to continue on your own. Plus, she is available on FB and E mail to answer any questions. A recipe for success really!
Speaking of recipes, the workshop ends with an absolutely delicious lunch cooked by Vanessa, which includes these wonderful Microgreens.
It was such a pleasure “rubbing shoulders” with like minded people, motivated towards improving their well being. I highly recommend attending this workshop. Thank you Vanessa.”

My name is Dr Vanessa Ingraham. Im a Naturopathic medical doctor (ND/NMD), originally from the Bahamas. My father is a physician and back in the 1980’s he was sending cancer patients to Hippocrates Institute in Florida to heal from various conditions. The mainstay of Hippocrates’ treatment was a diet rich in living foods; and especially sprouts. Thanks to this, we also grew up eating mung bean, red clover, alfalfa and various different types of sprouts.
My own micro journey began in 2006 when I was researching ways to help prevent cervical cancer in women with early cervical cell changes. We stumbled upon an amazing compound called Sulforaphane, that through its ability to change the way our body uses estrogen, turn off inflammation and turn up detoxification from a genetic level was a very promising candidate.
At the same time i was also super interested in gut health, as research into the microbiome exploded. I began researching Barley and wheatgrass, which are essentially the micro greens of these grains, and have been shown to not only prevent intestinal inflammation but also support detoxification and bone health.
After that i was HOOKED ON MICROS!
I was so impressed by the health benefits, i started growing wheat grass and other varieties of micro greens in the window of my 11th story apartment in downtown Toronto. I started eating my urban micros and making wheatgrass based juices daily. Despite the stress of being in a full time student in med school, my healthy benefited immensely. My skin cleared up, my periods normalised (no pain for the first time since I was 15!), I never got colds or flus in the winter and my depression, present since teenage years lifted.
Fast forward to 2013. I moved back to the Bahamas where i entered into clinical practice with a focus on women’s health and breast cancer. I began growing microgreens outdoors and recommending broccoli sprout supplements and “green powders’ containing wheat and barley grass, to my patients.
After a patient of mine (who turned out to be an entrepreneur from NZ) fell in love with the health benefits of a popular US dehydrated green powder. I was contracted to come to NZ to create a similar formula, for the company that became Nutrient Rescue NZ. Surprise, it contains wheat, barley, and broccoli sprouts :).
The rest is history.
Ive been growing and researching the benefits of microgreens for over 15 years now and thanks to an amazing turn of events, I attribute micros for not only my good health, but also for my ability to live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world - New Zealand!
Now i’m thrilled to be offering a new workshop that teaches you about the health benefits of microgreens and allows me to share my 15 years of success and mistakes.
My top 5 reasons!
What are the top research benefits of Sulfroaphane?
Im also working on an online course.....
